CHAVURAH HISTORY
Do you remember when our chavurah was known as BINK? That stood for Bainbridge Island North Kitsap Chavurah. I guess the C for Chavurah was subsumed under the “K”. Do you recall reading “The Gathering”, Lillian Lipman’s periodic newsletter that reported on our earliest events with a healthy dose of Jewish Guilt directed towards those of us who may have neglected to attend one or more of them? Ahhh, the decades unfold quite literally as Steve Soltar rummages through as many years of our groups paper trail memorabilia. Copies of services from some of our very first High Holiday Observances and Bar and Bhat Mitzvahs. Drafts, amendments and long forgotten documents on our incorporation and by-laws. Statements of purpose and belief attempting to define our firm unaffiliation with any affiliation. Expectations and mechanisms for our consensual decision making process. Aspirations for our communal life and the education of our children. Soltar found a rich archeological vein in the back of a closet deserving an archivist’s attention, a social historian’s analysis, and even review by our current membership who may benefit from learning about the past in order seize its wisdom and avoid its follies.
Who will take this box of treasure and at least preserve it for a few more decades, if not organize, analyze, and cultivate its riches? Soltar desperately seeks relief. Direct inquires to Steve Soltar. Extraverts may call 206-842-6846, while introverts are encouraged to step-up and email sdsoltar@zipcon.net.

• Education: schools teach habits of healthy homes, business skills, and how to increase farming output enhances healthcare, alternative income and food security
• Clean Water and Sanitation: preventing water-borne illness enhances healthcare; allowing girls and women to spend less time fetching water and more time attending school or setting-up small business enhances education and alternative income
• Health: children healthy to thrive enhances education; quickly treating illness ensures that people do not lose their savings and enhances alternative income
• Alternative Income and Livelihood: profits from small business ensures the community has the means to repair water projects, pay school fees, support medical projects, and re-invest into farms – all of which enhances the sustainability of water & sanitation, education, medical and food security
• Agriculture and Food Security: children at school with a full stomach ready to learn enhances education; a proper diet preventing illness enhances healthcare
We hope to see everyone there! And make sure to have May 24th on your calendar for the actual Bat-Mitzvah day! Thank you, Bayla and Julie
