COMMUNITY

Mazal Tov to our Wonder Woman Cay Vandervelde who just earned a degree in City/Urban Planning from UW while working full time for NATO in The Netherlands.

Please join us in wishing the Travis Tribe condolences on the passing of Paul’s step-grandmother, Barbara Mason.

If you are looking for Jewish soul food, you can find a small taste in Silverdale at the Oak Table Cafe.  We went to their sister restaurant, The Maple Counter, in Walla Walla, and met our daughter’s Jewish friend who had married into this restaurant family and brought them her Bubbie’s recipe for blintzes.  The Oak Table has them with cherries or blueberries, a bountiful dish -not healthy but a truly delicious treat.  Turn up Randall Rd. between Olive Garden/Great Floors and Target and go on up the hill then bear right into their lot.  Open daily from 7am – 3pm and packed till at least 1 pm. ~The Rutzicks

YEAR OF RENEWAL BREAKOUTS – Please Sign Up

At this year’s annual meeting, Shir Hayam resolved that 5780 is a Year of Renewal, with a focus on three specific topics. The community needs your help to make this happen. Will you sign up to help brainstorm one (or more!) of these topics?

  • Communication: How can we open and strengthen lines of communication between and among members, committees, and officers?
  • Participation: What’s our understanding of every member’s role in doing the work of the chavurah? There are lots of ways to be a leader – small ways and larger ones. What steps can we take to encourage, enable, and support each one of us as contributor and leader?
  • Tikkun Olam: How do we see Shir Hayam as a participant in “repairing the world?” What is our part? What should we continue to do, and what else should we start doing? How can we make the most of our efforts?

For each of these topics, there’s a designated contact person, given below. All you have to do is give your name to the person(s) for the topic(s) you’re interested in. That person will work with everyone who signs up to schedule a brainstorming meeting after High Holidays, and then to distill the results into one or more proposals to bring back to the chavurah. This is a great chance to be heard on topics of ongoing importance to our community!

You can sign up today by contacting one or more of the following people:

For the communication topic, contact Paul Travis
For the participation topic, contact Mike Orr
For the Tikkun Olam topic, contact Jane Greenberg
