SURVEY -Fill out a short, important survey – get a free, “thank you” Challah!
Yup! Fill out this short survey and you will receive a free, delicious Challah as a thank you. Your responses will tell the Ruach Committee how you felt about last year’s High Holiday services and what you would like our Chavurah to experience during this year’s services. YOUR OPINION IS VERY IMPORTANT.
The survey is anonymous, easy to do (on Survey Monkey) and everyone can fill it out – adults and teens 13 years of age and older.
Step One: PLEASE COMPLETE THE SURVEY BY FRIDAY, MARCH 11.
Step Two: e-mail Nina Rogozen with your name and a note saying that you completed the survey. After we hear from everyone, we’ll send you a date when, and location where, you can pick up your “thank you” Challah. (One per family.)
Fill out the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TRLCQKM
Thank you so much! The Ruach Committee
SHABBAT
Some months our Chavurat Shabbat draw a couple dozen; other times a more intimate and fun discussion group! Thanks to Carol Shakow for hosting Feb 12 and providing the heart-shaped challah — enjoyed by Carol & Mel, Jeff & Denise Brown, and Paul Travis.
TIKKUN OLAM CHARITY SPOTLIGHT
Have a favorite charity? Send in the link and some information about it and I will post it here. This month, we are spotlighting The Doney Memorial Pet Clinic – Serving Seattle Area Pets in Need.
This volunteer run and donation funded clinic provides veterinary care to the pets of homeless and qualifying low income people in the Seattle area. They have been serving people and pets in need for over 25 years. In addition to veterinary care, a pet food bank in also available. Other generously donated items like gently used leashes, harnesses, carriers, pet beds, toys and dishes are available for distribution. The clinic’s mission includes preventing an increase of unwanted pets through partnering with the City of Seattle’s spay and neuter program.
In 1985, Dr. Bud Doney saw a need for veterinary care for the pets of Seattle’s homeless people and set up a clinic, After Dr. Doney passed away, Dr. Stan Coe and a trusty band of volunteers continued his legacy by starting The Doney Memorial Pet Clinic. The clinic opens it’s doors twice a month, the second and fourth Saturdays, at The Union Gospel Mission in Pioneer Square.
Next month your favorite charity can be in the spotlight!

STEERING COMMITTEE Minutes
Shir Hayam Coordinating Committee Meeting
Sunday, February 28, 2016
Present: Jessica, Paul, Araya, Lisa, Nina.
Issues Discussed
Desire to enlarge membership and increase our community presence. There is a committee for this but no budget, except for a small, revolving ad.
Possible events: film nights, deli nights, game nights, Israeli dance night, Rabbi-led workshops. Topic needs further discussion. Will be an agenda item at the Annual Meeting.
Araya updated MailChimp with a JLC category – and others – to notify people about JLC goings on. There are a few problems with the content of the lists.
Araya will work to resolve this.
Jewish Learning Center – Next JLC event: March 11, Friday night; potluck dinner Activity: make ceramic sedar plates at Danielle and John’s house. Araya and Lisa will get the announcement for March 11 into the newsletter.
Ruach Committee – The survey is going out today via MailChimp – fill it out, you get a free Challah! Julie and Nina will get results; Ruach will determine next year’s HH based on survey results and existing feedback. They will line people up to make Challah and set up a schedule for when folks can pick up their Challah.
Annual Meeting – We have secured a venue – Pru’s House on Ridgetop in the Grand Forest. There will be room for activities, a children’s day care room, a kitchen and a big field for fun! We organized the flow of the meeting, which will include Israeli dancing; general business (e.g., committee reports, next year’s budget and new committee members); break out groups for specific discussions.
Purim – At the Rosenkotz’s, but nobody is doing any planning. We will be doing an “anacharistic” Purim party, which will be a lot of fun!! People can bring hamantatian (sweet or savory), games, activities, art supplies to make groggers etc. Come in costume. Date: March 19. See newsletter article on the Purim party.
Rabbi Elaina Zaiman – We discussed the possibility of a community workshop with her on creating a personal ethical will (“ … a letter we write to people who matter to us most in which we pass on our non-materials possessions: our values, wisdom, and love”. We will explore this further.
Next CC meeting Sunday, March 27th at 10:00 am – all are welcome (10am). Contact mailings@shirhayam.org for location.
